Used by the Romans for its medicinal properties, beetroot is now known to be rich in phytonutrients. It is a herbaceous biennial that is closely related to chard (silverbeet). Beetroot is great in the veggie patch has it yields a lot in a small garden. You can also eat the foliage. It will grow in part shade but produces better when grown in full sun. Sow directly in the garden bed.
